For many students in our program, barriers to academic success come in the form of poverty and the struggle of learning English as a second language. KAH tutoring serves students grades 1st-12th. Your participation as a tutor will make a significant change in their lives. The personal attention that our students get from one-on-one tutoring will help them excel academically, graduate high school, and pursue a journey that will help them break free from the cycle of poverty. Eligibility Check:

Schedule introductory/interest meeting with Program Manager to confirm eligibility

Complete volunteer tutor application

Pass a background check

Attend Kids at Heart Orientation/Training

Commit 1 hour/week during the school year (September - June)

Have access to high-speed internet and a laptop

Kids at Heart provides FREE virtual tutoring and mentoring for low-income students in grades 1st-12th. Most of our students live below the poverty line and speak English as a second language. Traditionally, KAH tutoring was hosted at multiple sites in San Diego but currently, all tutoring is done virtually.
As part of the program, students will be assigned to a trained tutor who will spend weekly one-on-one time to assist them with any schoolwork and help them form successful study habits.

Kids at Heart ofrece tutoría y tutoría virtual GRATUITA para estudiantes de bajos ingresos en los grados 1 a 12. La mayoría de nuestros estudiantes viven por debajo del umbral de la pobreza y hablan inglés como segundo idioma. Tradicionalmente, la tutoría de KAH se alojaba en varios sitios en San Diego, pero actualmente, toda la tutoría se realiza virtualmente.
