UPLIFT is a responsive agency, rising to meet community need with kindness. When homeless families were moved into motels as a COVID response, Regional Task Force on the Homeless requested games, & book & toys for the children. UPLIFT provided gift bags for 54 families with 89 children, served as Volunteer Advocates for housing placement and filled over 500 clothing requests for Motel Families & Convention Center Residents.

Diana and her two grade school aged children became homeless when the relative they lived with passed away. They were homeless for several months, moved into Golden Hall shelter then a COVID response motel. When the motel program ended, the placement offered her was not compatible with the two jobs she’s working. The kindness of UPLIFT Gap Funding covered $350 in room nights until Diana was matched to an apartment through the County.

Success Story: 16 years ago a 7th grade UPLIFT Tutoring Student witnessed a gang shooting as he left for school one morning. UPLIFT helped move the family to safety & navigate the trial, bringing the shooter to justice. Today all three students are thriving, as a pharmacy tech, an Army helicopter tech, and city administrator. We are grateful God used the kindness of UPLIFT to transform these lives.

Success Story: My name is Lucia. Kids at Heart tutoring was life changing and contributed to my love of learning. My tutor, Carol, was like the grandmother I never had. I’m forever grateful for her kindness, encouragement and the great memories. Now I'm pursuing my Master's degree in Forensic Psychology to work in the criminal justice system. I can definitely say Kids at Heart helped get me here. Thank you UPLIFT and Kids at Heart!

Success Story: My name is Wendy. Some of my best childhood memories come from Kids at Heart Tutoring. This program provided the extra support I needed, through the kindness of the Tutors, to complete my homework and graduate from Madison High. I'm one year away from my Bachelors Degree in Sociology at UCSD. I'm also working as Office Manager for Iglesia Prebyteriana Emmanuel and at IKEA. Thank you UPLIFT and Kids at Heart!
