Uplifting the quality of lives in San Diego through community service, faith, hope and love

And now faith, hope, love, abide these three; but the greatest of these is love.
1 Corinthians 13:13

UPLIFT is a faith-based organization working to improve the well being and quality of life of San Diego's inner city population by providing care, protection and education to more than three hundred children, senior citizens and homeless ex-offenders. Established in 1987, UPLIFT reaches out as an advocate to the poor to tackle some of the largest issues facing inner city residents to build a thriving San Diego community.
UPLIFT focuses its resources into three significant programs:

Kids at Heart offers tutoring and mentoring for low-income and racially diverse children in grades kindergarten through 12th. Many of these children struggle in school because of the language barrier and poverty. Through UPLIFT tutoring programs, the children's overall reading levels have increased an average of 83.5% in the last two school years .

Senior Partners Plus provides fellowship and group activities for low-income seniors who live in subsidized housing in the downtown area who would otherwise suffer from daily isolation. Through UPLIFT, these senior are able to go on weekly cultural outings and shopping trips and gain a sense of connectedness to their community.

Triple Cross provides assistance to homeless ex-offenders who are seeking to become reintegrated into the world of work. Through UPLIFT, volunteers assist the homeless with gaining self esteem, and identifying job opportunities and resources necessary to find jobs. UPLIFT also provides transportation to job interviews.

During elementary school, our Kids at heart students are nurtured by their caring volunteer tutors; but, year after year, UPLIFT watched these same students step into the icy waters of middle and high school with nowhere to turn for help with daily life and issues teens face today. Swimming Upstream was developed to guide young women as they navigate adolescent challenges through a ten-week workshop series providing tools for character development.

Swimming Upstream Program Goals:
• To engage young women with activities that encourage self-reflection, value identification and leadership practice.
• To provide young women with positive role models, each of which will share her own diverse challenges, gifts and talents.
• To help each student to identify their unique goals that God has given them and teach them how to use the resources available to them.

Let your light shine before men in such a way that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father who is in heaven...
